In a splendid palace where vibrant silks fluttered like butterflies and colorful birds sang sweet songs, Emperor Akbar sat on his shining throne. His golden crown sparkled in the warm sunlight, and a mischievous grin danced across his face. Today felt like a day for fun and tricks, and he couldn’t wait to tease his clever friend, Birbal.
As the sun climbed higher, Akbar drummed his fingers on the throne’s armrest, excitement bubbling inside him. The royal court buzzed with whispers, courtiers in their beautiful robes glancing at each other, eager to see what would happen next. Birbal, sitting comfortably on a plush cushion, sensed the emperor’s playful energy and raised an eyebrow with curiosity.
Suddenly, Akbar shouted, “Birbal! What is the difference between you and a donkey?” The room fell silent, eyes wide in anticipation. The courtiers held their breaths, waiting to see if Birbal would stumble. But Birbal simply tilted his head, pretending to think deeply, his gaze wandering over the gleaming marble floor to the emperor’s golden throne.
What was he doing? Was he searching for an answer? After a moment, Birbal stood tall and bowed with grace. “Your Majesty, the difference is about eight feet,” he stated confidently. Akbar’s brow furrowed in confusion. “Eight feet? What do you mean?” he asked, intrigued.
With a gentle wave of his hand, Birbal pointed toward the space between them. Suddenly, understanding lit up the court like the morning sun breaking through clouds. Birbal cleverly suggested the only donkey there was on Akbar’s throne! Gasps filled the air as the courtiers’ faces turned from pale to bright crimson.
Akbar’s surprise quickly melted into laughter, filling the palace with joy. “Birbal!” he wheezed, clutching his belly, “Only you could call me a donkey and make me grateful for it!” With a warm smile, Birbal replied, “I just answered your question, Your Majesty.”
Laughter echoed throughout the palace, and even the courtiers, who were once anxious, joined in the fun. They learned that sometimes, even in tricky moments, a calm and clever mind could turn everything around, bringing smiles and joy to all.
