In a shimmering palace that twinkled like a sky full of stars, there lived a clever emperor named Akbar. One bright and sunny afternoon, he bounced on his golden throne, a playful grin lighting up his face. Today was special! He had a delightful game in mind for his favorite advisor, the witty Birbal.
As Birbal stepped into the grand court, a buzz of excitement filled the air. The courtiers leaned forward, their eyes sparkling with curiosity. Akbar rubbed his hands together, ready to unleash his playful challenge. “Birbal!” he called, “What is the difference between you and a donkey?” The question floated around the room like a dancing butterfly, and all eyes turned to Birbal. Would he know how to respond?
Instead of rushing to answer, Birbal looked around thoughtfully, as if he were measuring the palace itself. The courtiers held their breath, puzzled by his silence. Was he thinking of the answer or perhaps creating a grand surprise? Finally, with a confident smile, he straightened up and said, “Your Majesty, the difference between us is exactly eight feet.” A wave of confusion washed over the court. “Eight feet?” Akbar repeated, his eyebrows raised in curiosity.
“Yes, Your Majesty,” Birbal replied, his eyes sparkling with mischief. “That’s the distance between where I stand and where you sit!” Silence filled the hall, and then realization swept across the courtiers' faces. Birbal had cleverly suggested that the true donkey was the one lounging on the golden throne—none other than the emperor himself!
Gasping, the courtiers braced for Akbar's reaction. Would he be angry? But the emperor’s face transformed from surprise to understanding, and then—he burst into laughter! “You IMPOSSIBLE man!” he wheezed, wiping joyful tears from his eyes. “You’ve just called your Emperor a donkey with cleverness!”
The laughter rippled through the palace, filling everyone's hearts with warmth and joy. In that magical moment, they all learned that a little humor could brighten even the grandest of days, and sometimes, the wisest words were those that brought a smile to everyone’s face.
