In the grand palace of Emperor Akbar, excitement buzzed like dozens of tiny fireflies! Today, Akbar had a challenge that made everyone gasp. With a twinkle in his eye, he clapped his hands and announced, “Listen closely! Let’s see who can play music that captures the attention of our special guest!” Everyone turned to see a gigantic brown bull, munching hay in the courtyard, looking as bored as a sleepy cat in a sunbeam.
The courtiers giggled. Surely, no music could impress this big furry friend! The first musician, a master of the sitar, stepped forward, strumming a melody that danced through the air like sparkling butterflies. The courtiers sighed in delight, but the bull? He just kept chewing, as if he were a stone statue.
Next, a tabla player banged on his drums, making the walls shake with “DHAM! DHAKATA! DHAM DHAM!” The beat was so joyous that everyone couldn’t help but tap their feet, but the bull simply yawned, half-asleep.
One by one, the finest musicians played, filling the air with beautiful sounds like a rainbow of colors. But still, the bull remained uninterested, and hope began to fade.
Finally, it was Birbal’s turn. With a mysterious smile, he approached, clutching a simple wooden flute. The courtiers whispered, “What can he do with that?” Taking a deep breath, Birbal began to play. The notes tumbled out like wild, silly sounds — a cow’s “MOOOOO!” mixed with the rustle of grass, and even a clumsy honk!
The courtiers winced and giggled, but then, something magical happened! The bull's ears perked up like little antennas, his nostrils flared, and with a joyful bounce, he trotted toward Birbal!
“BIRBAL WINS!” shouted Akbar, laughing heartily. The musicians were in shock, their eyes wide. “How did you do it?” they cried.
Birbal simply smiled and lowered his flute. “I played sounds that a bull would love,” he said, his eyes twinkling. The courtyard erupted in laughter as the bull happily trotted beside him, and everyone learned that understanding your audience is the true secret to cleverness!
