In a sunny meadow filled with blooming flowers, a Swallow danced joyfully in the air, her feathers sparkling like tiny rainbows under the bright sun. She loved how her colors shone and felt like the most beautiful bird in the whole world. Flapping her wings with pride, she noticed a Crow sitting nearby on a fence post, his feathers a deep shade of black.
“Hello, good Crow!” chirped the Swallow, swooping down beside him. “Have you ever seen anyone as lovely as me? Just look at my dazzling colors!” The Crow looked at her, a gentle smile on his face. “Your feathers are indeed lovely,” he replied, his voice calm like a warm breeze.
The Swallow puffed out her chest, feeling important. “But you, dear Crow, are so dark and simple. Don’t you wish you could sparkle like me?” The Crow shrugged. “I may not shine like you, but I’m built to last through all kinds of weather.”
The Swallow tilted her head, intrigued. “What do you mean?”
“When storms come and the cold winds blow, where will you be?” asked the Crow wisely.
“I’ll fly south to the warm sun!” the Swallow replied confidently.
“Ah,” said the Crow, “but I’ll stay here. My plain feathers keep me warm and safe when the world turns cold.” Suddenly, dark clouds rolled in, and a fierce wind began to blow. The Swallow flapped her wings frantically to keep from being swept away.
“See, Swallow?” the Crow called over the howling wind. “It’s not just beauty that matters. You’ll need strength too!” Just then, heavy raindrops began to fall, and the Swallow gasped in panic. “Help! The rain!”
The Crow opened his wings wide. “Come to the tree!” he shouted. The Swallow quickly flew to the shelter of the tree, her heart pounding. She nestled beside the Crow, feeling relieved and grateful as they waited for the storm to pass.
When the rain finally stopped and the sun peeked through the clouds, the Swallow turned to the Crow. “Thank you for saving me! I see now that while my feathers shine, it’s your strength that helped us weather the storm.”
From that day on, the Swallow learned to value not just her beauty, but the solid friendship of the wise Crow who showed her that true worth shines brightest in the toughest times.
