Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves

Arabian Nights Tales

A classic tale retold for young readers — full of wonder, magic, and timeless wisdom.

In a land where golden sands danced with the sun, there lived a kind woodcutter named Ali Baba. His hands were strong from work, but his heart was as soft as a gentle breeze. One sunny afternoon, while resting behind a big boulder, Ali Baba stumbled upon something AMAZING! A group of forty fierce thieves rode up to a cliff and, with a voice that rumbled like thunder, their leader shouted, “OPEN SESAME!”

With a loud rumble, the cliff split open, revealing a hidden cave sparkling with gold and jewels that glimmered like stars! Ali Baba watched in awe as the thieves hurried inside. Once they were gone, he whispered the magic words, and to his surprise, the cave opened just for him! He filled his pockets with just enough treasure to bring joy to his family and hurried home, dreaming of all the good he would do.

But his greedy brother, Cassim, learned of Ali Baba’s secret. Ignoring his brother's care, Cassim rushed to the cave, filling three giant sacks with treasure. In his excitement, he forgot the magic words! “Open... um... Open Barley?” he stammered, but nothing happened! When the thieves returned, they found Cassim trapped, and he was in big trouble!

Meanwhile, Ali Baba’s clever servant, Morgiana, noticed a mysterious oil merchant rolling up in a cart filled with giant jars. Inside were the sneaky thieves! That night, Morgiana went to fetch oil, but when she heard a low whisper from a jar, she calmly asked, “Is it time?” After thirty-nine jars, she found the real one and hatched a brilliant plan. She heated oil until it roared and splashed it into the jars, sending the thieves into a wild frenzy!

Later, the captain returned disguised again, but Morgiana saw through the trick! She twirled and danced with a glimmering dagger, and with a swift move, she saved the day!

Ali Baba was grateful and embraced Morgiana, recognizing her bravery. They shared their treasures with those in need, building schools and feeding the hungry. Everyone learned that true heroes often come from the most unexpected places, and the best treasures are the gifts of courage and cleverness.
