On a bright and sunny morning, King Krishnadevaraya sat on his sparkling golden throne, radiating joy. "Listen closely, everyone!" he boomed, his voice echoing like a drum in the grand hall. "What do you think is the MOST difficult job in the whole world?" The ministers, adorned in colorful turbans, quickly began to chatter. "Ruling a kingdom!" they shouted, nodding so energetically that their turbans wobbled atop their heads. The king chuckled, puffing out his chest with pride. "Indeed, my job is quite the challenge!"
But in a cozy corner, Tenali Raman, the cleverest man in the court, wore a sly grin. "TENALI!" the king exclaimed, his eyes narrowing. "Why do you smile? Do you think it's easier?"
Rising slowly, Tenali replied, “Your Majesty, ruling is tough, but I believe being a mother is even harder!” The court fell silent, as if someone had popped a balloon. The king raised an eyebrow, curious. "PROVE IT!" he commanded, crossing his arms.
With a mischievous twinkle, Tenali called for a little boy and his mother. The boy bounded in, eyes sparkling like stars. "Ask the king for anything you wish!" Tenali encouraged. The boy thought hard, then shouted, “I want an ELEPHANT!”
The king laughed heartily. “Bring forth an elephant!” he ordered. The ground quaked as a giant elephant, larger than a small house, strutted into view, its ears flapping like sails. The boy beamed but pointed at his tiny wicker basket. “Put it IN there! I want to show my friends!”
The court gasped, and the king’s smile faded. “But dear boy, elephants don’t fit—” Before he could finish, the boy let out a cry louder than a thunderstorm! “WAAAAAH!”
Ministers rushed with sweets and toys, but nothing worked. Suddenly, the boy’s mother bent down. “Sweetheart,” she said gently, pulling out a tiny toy elephant from her pocket, “look! This is just the right size for your basket! The big one would squish it flat, silly!”
The boy's tears turned to giggles as he clutched the little toy, his laughter ringing through the hall like sweet music. He danced away, joyfully shouting while the king wiped his brow, his heart swelling with new understanding.
Tenali beamed, knowing that while kings might command armies, a mother's gentle magic was truly the greatest power of all.
